Throughout July and early August, the Clubhouse ran a series of camps as part of the Museum's Summer Camp and at the South Shore YMCA in Quincy. At both locations we ran two different camps. One was called: Glowing Circuit Creatures. In it, campers were taught paper circuits and sewing and then combined that knowledge to create their own stuffed creature that lit up using a Lilymini. The second camp was called: Chain Reaction. During this camp, we taught campers basic programming through Scratch as well as how to make a popsicle stick weave. The campers then used these skills to build their own Rube Goldberg machine. The contraption the campers at the Quincy camp constructed worked all the way through! Regardless, the kids from both the Museum and the YMCA demonstrated great creativity, collaboration, and growth and I am grateful I got the opportunity to work with them. Although there were some behavioral issues, at the end of the day I gained much experience, willpower, and more importantly: confidence.
